Use thisteaching resourcewhen studying word families andrhymingin your classroom.

Word familiesare groups of words that share a common pattern or group of letters. For example, the words cat, hat, mat, sat and rat are all part of the -at family because they all share the letters ‘at’. When learning to read, patterns are important and make it easier when sounding out words.

This set ofsorting cardsinclude the following word families:

  • -ap
  • -ip
  • -an
  • -in.

Simply print, cut out and laminate the cards for durability. They can be used in a variety of whole group, small group and individualphonicsactivities.
