Promote active learning in your classroom with a decimal place value game.

Decimal Place Value Game

Are you looking for a fun, whole-class game that aims to build skills that involve decimal place value? Teach Starter has developed a fun activity that will get your students up and moving while learning at the same time!

This “Find a Decimal Who…” Game encourages students to find other classmates wearing a name tag with a decimal that fits each description on their recording sheet. Students will work to find numbers that fit descriptions such as:

  • Has a zero in the tenths place
  • Is equal to four tenths and one hundredth
  • Has a value greater than one dollar

To play, each student will wear a decimal name tag visible to all classmates. Students will fill out their game board by finding classmates with decimals that match the descriptions in the corresponding boxes.

Through this activity, students will recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left.
