Master Number Sequencing with 1-100 Number Cards

All you need to get this counting game going is adequate floor space or a pocket chart! We’ve provided a set of directions, two sets of 1-100 number cards (one in colour and one in black and white for more of a challenge), and an answer key.

To play, students will shuffle either set of number cards and use theircountingskills to order them from 1-100 correctly.

Through this activity, students will show they can count to 100, starting at any number.

Use a visual reminder of thecorrect order of numbersfor students who need it, such as a 100 board displayed in the classroom or on their desk plate.

More Ways to Play with the Number Cards

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource for students to work on as a group activity or even independently in yourmaths group. Check out our suggestions for reinforcing your small group and full-class lessons:

✋ Group Ordering

To play as a whole class, pass out all number cards to your students (they will have multiple to play). Ask students to sit in a large circle with floor space in the middle of them and identify the numbers on their cards. Call the numbers in sequence. The student with the matching number comes to the centre of the floor to place their card in order. Continue until all number cards are played, then count them together!

Jump In Line

Work on 20-25 consecutive cards at a time, depending on the number of students in your class. Provide students with a number card. Then, have them stand up and silently put themselves in numerical order.

Scoot Activity

Pull 15-20 cards at random, number them in the corner of the card and hang them in order around the room. Instruct students to number a sheet of paper as a recording sheet. Assign students or pairs to a starting point card, where they’ll identify the number on the card and the numbers that come before it and after it, writing the sequence on their recording sheet in the matching space. Students will rotate to the next card when you say, “SCOOT!” Continue in this manner until students return to their starting point.
