Explore historical sources through age-appropriate content

This PowerPoint has been designed to introduce younger students to the concept of the past as a point in time that existed before the present. It addresses how stories from the past can be communicated through historical sources such as oral storytelling, objects, written texts and photographs.

A number of example sources are also provided in the presentation to stimulate discussion. Students are encouraged to look for the clues in each example that may help unlock the secrets of the past.

It is recommended that students be encouraged to find some photos and objects that tell a special story about their own past. The following resources have been designed to assist with such an activity.
