A worksheet to practice identifying the mood of a piece of text.
The mood of a piece of text is the general atmosphere or emotion the author’s words evoke in the reader. Oftentimes this is confused with the tone of a piece of text.
Use this resource when teaching your students how to use words found in the text to determine its mood.
Students will read a set of 5 paragraphs. They will underline the words that best describe the mood of each paragraph and choose one word to represent its overall mood.
Have your students complete the worksheet independently as a formative assessment to see who needs extra support, or project it on the whiteboard and complete it together as a class when teaching the skill.
An answer key is included in the download.
